Tom Hardy to see Mad Max: Fury Road sequel cancelled?
In previous interviews, Miller has entertained the notion of another installment, but has been careful to mention a second screenplay developed alongside Fury Road – unofficially known as The Wasteland – is not in fact the next chapter of the Mad Max legend. “If you finish one in a year, it’s considered a leap of faith”. However, despite having accrued enough material for two more Mad Max movies, Miller has told Page 6 that he is essentially finished with the franchise. Start, stop, start again… “We had to wait 18 months and every return to the USA was 27 hours”.
Official details are still thin on the sun-scorched ground, though we find it hard to imagine a scenario wherein George Miller cuts ties with the Mad Max universe completely; rather, even with new blood at the helm, we expect the director will remain attached as executive producer or some form of creative advisor. She’s not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there’s an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. Furthermore, it would always be compared to FURY ROAD. We’ll see. As John Lennon said, life is what happens when you’re making other plans.
Also, knowing that he’s directed films as diverse as Lorenzo’s Oil, Babe: Pig in the City, and the Happy Feet films – all films I loved for very different reasons – makes me want to see what else he can do. “I won’t do those any more”. If Miller isn’t convinced to direct a sequel, the studio will more than likely move on to another director.
With that in mind, could this mean the end of the Mad Max franchise?
