Children’s cold medicine recalled due to potential overdose risk
Nine retailers including CVS, Kroger, and Dollar General have recalled two flavors of store branded children’s liquid cold medicine.
Over-the-counter specialist Perrigo said on Monday that it was recalling some of its children’s grape-flavored Mucinex copies after learning that dosing cups may be mismarked, putting children at risk for being overdosed. They are being pulled because the dose cups have incorrect markings.
According to the most recent FDA Enforcement Report, Perrigo is recalling 14 batches of its private label version of Zyrtec.
The Perrigo Company manufactures the medicine that is sold nationally under several different brand names.
The grape flavored products that are recalled have the H.E.B. label with lot number 5LK0592, and the CVS label with lot number 5MK0340, both with expiration dates of 08/2017.
There have been no reported overdoses related to the medication. Other effects have included nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, irregular heartbeat, seizures, respiratory depression, and death.
Perrigo’s consumer line is: 1-888-345-0479.
