Israeli soldiers shoot dead two Palestinian assailants -army

The U.S. government on Friday criticized Israel’s plan to expand a Jewish settlement on the West Bank, saying it undermines the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

One hour later, another Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli army at Beat Anoun checkpoint eastern Hebron (Al-Khalil) southern West Bank.

More than 150 Palestinians have been killed in the recent escalation of violence since the start of October. Twenty-two Israelis have been killed in the same time period.

Officials say the Hamas terror cell was planning to use the Israeli hostage as a bargaining chip for freedom for Palestinian prisoners.

Israel often retains the bodies of Palestinians killed during alleged attacks, a measure that has drawn criticism from rights groups as well as Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.
