Warriors’ Draymond Green puts up third straight triple-double
It was the second game in two days for the dubs who easily beat the Charlotte Hornets on Monday 111-101.
“Oh, man, it was hard to come by”, Green said. He showed no effects of the injury and finished with 16 points. It was a complete win by a mostly complete team. “And I didn’t get kicked, which was nice”. I’m sure that Burger King is already drooling over that possibility but until then, Burger King will just bask in all of the extra attention that this commercial has surely generated.
Guard Stephen Curry added 17 points, six assists and three steals for the Warriors (33-2), who have won nine of their past 10 since the Milwaukee Bucks ended their NBA-record 24-0 start.
In another key result, Kyrie Irving led Cleveland to a comfortable home win against Toronto in a clash of Eastern Conference divisional leaders.
When Stephen Curry went down, however, Draymond Green stepped up. “That’s what happened tonight”.
Curry ran back down the court limping after appearing to hit his shin on the Lakers’ Roy Hibbert while scoring on a third-quarter layup. The last player in the National Basketball Association to do it was Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook, who had a four-game streak last season.
The Warriors announced early in the fourth quarter that Curry would not return to the game, which by then was well in hand.
Boston Celtics got back to winning ways with a 103-94 win over Brooklyn Nets thanks to Jae Crowder’s career-best 25 points. “It was just one of those nights”. “It was a combination of Klay Thompson and…” But Thompson coming out firing with 22 points in the first against the Lakers was a sight to see.
The Hornets, meanwhile, only the 18th-most accurate in the league when it comes to shooting 3-pointers (34.6 percent), misfired on 14 of 21. On the surface, the mighty 32-2 Warriors vs. the lowly 8-27 Lakers shouldn’t be much of a contest.
LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 05: Klay Thompson #11 of the Golden State Warriors looks to pass between Louis Williams #23 and Anthony Brown #3 of the Los Angeles Lakers during the first half at Staples Center on January 5, 2016 in Los Angeles, California.
“The other option, which I know he’s not going to do, is just sit out until it goes away”, Schulz said. “I asked the trainers, and they said he’s good, so we put him back out”.
For the Warriors, guard Leandro Barbosa (left shoulder sprain) and James Michael McAdoo (sprained toe) were unavailable.
Walton agreed, noting that the club prepared Shaun Livingston to be the starting point guard at the morning shootaround.
Scott is feuding with forward Julius Randle, who has gotten upset about being substituted.
Warriors: Golden State is staying in a luxury coastal resort in Southern California before flying north to visit the Trail Blazers on Friday.
