No Powerball victor, so jackpot up to $1.3 billion
The Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the Powerball, said it expected 75% of the possible combinations had been bought for the latest draw, although the odds of matching all six Powerball numbers are one in 292.2 million. They correctly picked five numbers and only missed the powerball number to win.
But it won’t be the $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot. Officials say it’s increasingly likely that someone will win the $900 million Powerball jackpot, which…
At least one $1 million and one $2 million ticket were sold in-state yesterday, according to lottery officials.
Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as in Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Saturday’s almost $950 million jackpot already was the largest in US history, but after Saturday night’s rollover, Wednesday’s drawing will be worth $1.3 billion, said Texas Lottery official Kelly Cripe.

As USA Mega explains, “You select five distinct numbers between 1 and 69, and one “Powerball” number between 1 and 26″.
The next Powerball drawing will be held on Wednesday, January 13 at 10:59 p.m. EST.
Terry Rich, chief executive of the Iowa Lottery, said he’s heard this one frequently and repeatedly explains that if someone dies, that person’s estate will treat the annuity like any other asset. The prize doubles to $2 million if the player purchased a Power Play ticket, which costs $2 instead of $1 but doubles non-jackpot prizes.
“We encourage people to make sure they have good clean documentation, who owns all of the tickets in the office pool and how the proceeds will be shared”, he said.
Each lucky United Kingdom victor will receive £33,035,323, scooping their share of the biggest ever jackpot. Winners can also choose the cash prize, which is the total amount now up for grabs, but that is “only” $868 million.
The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing will be $1.3 billion.
The jackpot has ballooned since its November 4 starting point of $40 million and spurred huge ticket sales.
