Barca looking to strengthen forward line, says coach
Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique on Tuesday stressed that his club’s Lionel Messi is “being recognized as the greatest player of all time” after the Argentine football star won the 2015 FIFA Ballon d’Or last night in Zurich for the fifth time in his career.
But only Sampaoli has travelled to Zurich to attend the awards ceremony.
In his first season in charge of Barca, Enrique guided the Catalan giants to five trophies of the six on offer previous year, including the La Liga, King’s Cup and Champions league that sealed an unprecedented second European treble.
Bayern Munich’s Pep Guardiola and Chile’s Jorge Sampaoli finished as runners-up for the honor.
When asked by reporters where on the pitch he would like to reinforce, Enrique said: “I don’t know how to answer but it’s a very good question”.
The threesome have also played a key role this term as Barca clinched the FIFA Club World Cup title in Japan, while also maintaining their Liga challenge and easing through to the knockout stages of the Champions League. “This certainly represents a whole lot of people, to our players our captains our staff back in the US it’s my honest gratitude to your effort and your belief in this team”.
“To FIFA, our own federation, to Sunil Gulati, thank you for your belief and investment and continued belief in women’s football”.
