Palestinian Attempts To Stab Israeli Soldier, Shot: Army
Israeli troops on Monday shot and seriously injured a Palestinian youth at Mevo Dothan, an Israeli military checkpoint at Jenin-Tulkarm road, according to security sources.
“Forces responded and shot the assailant, thwarting the attack”.
Commentators say the surge in violence has been fueled by the 2014 collapse of U.S.-sponsored peace talks, the growth of Jewish settlements on land Palestinians want for a state and Islamist calls for the destruction of Israel. The Israeli soldiers accused the two Palestinians – identified as Ali Muhammad and Sa’eed Judeh – of attempting to stab them.
Palestinian stabbing, car-ramming and shooting attacks have killed 21 Israelis and a USA citizen since October 1.
The Israeli army alleged the men had tried to stab soldiers manning the checkpoint, but witnesses said they did not see the pair wielding knives.
The IOF prevented the Palestinian Red Crescent crew from reaching the young man while he was left bleeding on the ground before they gave him first-aid help. The family of Alaa Abu Jamal has also been demolished in the same Jerusalem neighbourhood – Jamal rammed his vehicle into a Jerusalem bus stop on 13 October, got out, and killed a bystander with a meat cleaver.
The compound at Gush Etzion is located south of a junction that has been scene to multiple attacks by Palestinians against civilians and soldiers over the past three and a half months.
The conflict has killed 22 Israelis, along with an American and an Eritrean.
At least 137 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire.
Israeli forces detained 36 Palestinians in the last three days.
Selling land to Jews is punishable by death under strict Palestinian laws, but the courts have not implemented death sentences in recent years and instead hand down heavy prison sentences.
Others have been killed in clashes with Israeli forces.
In mid-September, Palestinian protests against Israel’s ongoing occupation were sparked by increased right-wing Jewish settler incursions into the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site for Muslims.
