Say hello to ‘Origin Access,’ EA’s $5 subscription service for PC games
Electronic Arts has announced that its popular EA Access service will be heading…to PC. The very existence of Origin Access suggests EA is happy with the performance of its Xbox One-based initial gambit. Participating will cost you $5/month. It remains to be seen whether EA will offer some kind of subscription package for customers who split their gaming time between their Xbox and their PC, and the company doesn’t seem to have plans for offerings on other consoles yet.
Starting today for just $4.99 United States dollars per month PC owners can now stream a library of 12 full EA Titles with more being added over time.
Of course, the main prize of the subscription service is in access to what EA is calling, ‘The Vault.’ Inside this digital crypt you’ll find more than a dozen titles that are included with your Origin Access account. The program is padded out with the rest of the Dragon Age games, Battlefield Hardline, all three Dead Space games, and a few miscellaneous grab-bag titles (Sims 3, Need for Speed Rivals, and everyone’s least-favorite SimCity).
EA promises the roster will continue to grow, though it’s hard to say how quickly given that the Xbox program is over a year old and still touts only fourteen games. Why wait 17 months from the launch of Access on Xbox? We’ll keep you updated if that changes.
