The New 2017 E-Class from Mercedes-Benz
As shown by past generations of the E-Class, that proudly wore traits from its larger “Sonderklasse” brother, this design solution makes the vehicles instantly recognizable on the road from the distance. That’s because aside from the sensual styling of the vehicle and excellent choice of engine, it packs a lot of advanced technological features. Both the steering wheel and the center console have touch-sensitive controls to run audio, phone, navigation, and more. 50 percent of its words are devoted to explaining these new systems, despite the whole vehicle being different.
It also comes with a new dimension in driver assistance and a new infotainment and control system.
Mercedes-Benz chose the 2016 Detroit Auto Show to unveil its MY 2017 E-Class, the tenth generation of the model.
Daimler (DAIGn.DE), the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, has meanwhile benefited from surging demand for its new C-Class mid-sized limousine, which saw sales jump 40.1 percent to 443,909 cars a year ago.
Moreover, the good-looking E-class will get additional driver-assist and connected technologies, including active lane-change assist, remote-parking pilot and some steering assist. The engine will be mated to a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission.
The E-Class also marks the debut of a new infotainment system, and of hardware that let it communicate with other cars in order to avoid accidents.
Also, the SUV portfolio which consists of the GLA, GLE and GL-Class saw sales growth of 100 per cent, by far being the strongest record achieved in the segment by the vehicle maker. So what kind of setup can we expect to see in the future? A long and securely setup leader in the luxury sedan class, the E-Class needs to keep pace with aggressive plays by the likes of Lexus, BMW and Audi to stay ahead by its three-pointed be-star’d nose.
As luxury automakers vie to roll out the most breakthrough features, Mercedes-Benz may have found one of the most obscure yet for the new E-Class midsize sedan: protecting passengers’ hearing in the event of a crash.
For the US, the Auto will go on sale this summer with a turbocharged 2-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
The 2017 model, which will arrive on the market in the fall, has so many new features that it is too much to mention them all.
