Decision to axe Nets coach easy: owner
I still believe with some luck our results might have been more promising.
-In the post-game interview, Brown said, “We gave ourselves a chance in the first half”.
One day after firing coach Lionel Hollins and “reassigning” general manager Billy King, Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov implied that the ousted regime couldn’t handle the pressure of NY. His Nets are now 10-27 and third to last in average attendance per game. Despite the loss, Brook Lopez was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points. Each time the Nets have had a different head coach. Popovich, in his 20th season as Spurs coach, wouldn’t criticize their instability on the bench – “I don’t run anybody else’s business, I just participate in running our own”, he said – but did call Hollins a “wonderful coach”. Prokhorov said he has learned two major lessons since coming to Brooklyn in 2010, and the first is that NY is “another animal”.
Of course, Prokhorov is still under the delusion that an National Basketball Association championship is right around the corner once he reels in his desired targets. “It’s clear from our current state of affairs that we need new leadership… we are going to create a winning culture and identity”, he said. “I can see us coming together through this”. San Antonio has been relevant for almost 20 years because of great players, certainly, but also because the teams doesn’t lose sight of the future for short sided goals. Yes, that’s nitpicking, but this Warriors team has been so good to this point (36-2), it’s about the best we can do. “We need to be better”. “Following the consolidation of team ownership last month, I can assure you that I’m more determined and committed than ever to build a victor”. “Lionel had just been let go and so, the two men needed to talk”. 980 points per possession, while the San Antonio Spurs earn fewer possessions (95.1) but more points per possession (1.089).
While the Nets may be attempting to figure out what kind of assets they have, the Spurs know exactly what they’ve got.
The Nets job could be an interesting situation: they have $45.37 million in salary cap commitments next season, giving them what could be $44 million in cap space this summer.
Fans cheered loudest for 7-foot-3 Serbian Boban Marjanovic, who finished 13 points and was on the floor in the final seconds when a “Go Spurs Go!” chant broke out. We had to play much better to get this win. My first opportunity as an assistant with Mike Dunleavy, I think he’s a very smart guy, understands the game, played it, had success as a coach. They can accept a role.
When the Spurs signed LaMarcus Aldridge over the summer, this is what everyone thought they’d be getting.
