‘The Revenant’ wins big at Golden Globes

And Brie Larson won best actress in a drama for playing a mother and kidnapping victim in “Room”. The ratings decline for the Golden Globes isn’t as steep as that experienced by other major awards shows over the past year.
Most presenters couldn’t mask their sarcasm about The Martian being nominated for (and winning) the Best Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical award.
It has been nearly two decades since Kate and Leo made Titanic, and both actors have gone on to have stellar careers, but Leo has never won the Oscar, despite extraordinary performances in Gangs of New York, Django, The Aviator and The Great Gatsby.
“The Son of Saul”, a Hungarian about the Holocaust, won for Best Foreign Language film. The critically acclaimed TV series of 2015, Mr. Robot, bagged the coveted title of best TV series drama against shows like Empire, Narcos, Outlander and the biggest competitor, Game of Thrones.
The Best-Comedy-or-Musical award went to “The Martian”.
“He was very straight forward and very vocal about what he wanted”, she said. “I was here 18 years ago…”
“I want to share this award with all the First Nations people represented in this film, and all the indigenous communities around the world”, DiCaprio said.
The Golden Globes were handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at a glitzy Beverly Hills dinner packed with A-list celebrities.
Clay Landry, who was the film’s historical consultant, joined host Leisha Grebinski on CBC’s Saskatoon Morning to talk about how he and two colleagues – Loren Yellowbird and Craig Falcon – ensured indigenous culture and people were accurately portrayed in the film.
Jennifer Lawrence won for best comedic actress for her turn in “Joy”, about a woman who becomes the founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty.
Denzel Washington took to the stage with his family to collect the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.
Though Hollywood’s reception to Gervais hosting has proven divisive in the past, he’s brought back time and time again because he ensures good ratings, and it’s certainly no bad thing to start the night out by underlining the silliness of the ceremony.
