Worldwide Record-Breaking Powerball Drawing Wednesday

The Powerball jackpot has grown to $1.5 billion as of Tuesday morning after a series of 19 drawings in which no one picked the lucky combination – and the jackpot grew.

Powerball players across the US had their high hopes of hitting a $949.8 million jackpot dashed in a drawing Saturday, but a number of them did win prizes with face values of $1 million or more.

The Powerball jackpot has now climbed to a historic $1.4 billion – more than double the previous record for a US lottery jackpot.

The drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday.

The record-breaking Powerball jackpot has lead to record-breaking statistics for businesses that sell lottery tickets.

“The excitement is growing tremendously, not only state and nationwide, but also across the entire world for this historic jackpot on Wednesday night”, Florida Lottery Secretary Tom Delacenserie said in a statement sent to FLORIDA TODAY. The Jan. 13 Powerball jackpot is now estimated at $1.4 billion, but officials say it’s likely to grow.

The victor can take the $1.5 billion prize in annual payments over 29 years. The lump-sum payout is $930 million.

Officials said there have been two Powerball jackpot wins in Maryland since the game came to the state in 2010.

It’s not just the state that is benefiting from Powerball’s ticket sales.

The chance of winning the grand prize is one in more than 292 million.

Hanson was able to get a ticket and even if he had number 62, it still would not have been a winning one. He’ll probably wind up with slightly less than that, after federal and state taxes on the winnings are finalized.
