Yesterday, security forces declared that the air force station in Pathankot, where India keeps fighter jets and attack helicopters, was fully sanitized.
Modi, accompanied by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, was briefed by senior Defence and security officers about the terrorist attack, carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammed fidayeen in which seven security personnel lost their lives and as many as 12 were injured.
In fact, India has told Pakistan that Foreign Secretaries’ meeting would depend on the action taken on the culprits of Pathankot terror attack.
The information include intercepts of telephone calls made by the militants to their handlers, and the locations of the numbers which they had called in Pakistan.
“The Pakistanis (had) said they’re going to investigate, so we look forward to seeing the results of that investigation”, he said.
“So, as a troubleshooter for the United States who knows Pakistan very well, he has put pressure on the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif”, Rai told ANI.
According to earlier reports, India wanted the the NSAs of the two countries to meet before Foreign Secretary-level talks are held. The US Secretary of State hoped talks between Pakistan and India would continue despite efforts to damage the process.
Officials in New Delhi say they gave Pakistan “specific and actionable information” regarding the assault.
The US Secretary of State, John Kerry, on Saturday urged Pakistan and India to continue the dialogue despite conspiracies by terrorists.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has on Friday said that any statement about Pathankot attack before complete investigations would be premature.
“Aziz’s confidence about “Pak-India talks intact” can be interpreted that Pakistan is serious about acting on the leads provided by India and may well lay hands on those suspected of being involved in the attack before January 15″, a government official told PTI.
Mr. Sharif also maintained the anti-terror commitment and said: “Pakistan is swiftly carrying out investigations in a transparent manner and will bring out the truth”.
He said the two foreign secretaries will decide the time schedule of various meetings under the newly agreed “comprehensive bilateral dialogue”. “But we must regard it as acts of war and our response needs to be firm not in just words but in the form of better and professional preparedness and willing to take the enemy on”, Badal said.
