New Spotify Playlists Tell the Stories ‘Behind The Lyrics’

When you load up a new playlist in your account, as well as listening to songs, you’ll be able to see the lyrics and the story behind them.

The first compilation focuses on hip hop, offering insight into 50 popular songs from artists like Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz, Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa, Future, and more.

The two brands have launched a Behind the Lyrics playlist series, starting off with Behind the Lyrics (HipHop), to be followed by Behind the Lyrics (Hits) sometime in the next week.

The services announced a new product called “Fact Tracks”, created by combining Spotify’s streaming platform with Genius’ lyrics interpretations to give users a fresh look into artists’ content. We’ll keep our eyes (and ears) open for word on its Android launch, though, so stay tuned.

According to TIME, streaming-service Spotify is partnering with lyric annotation site Genius for a new venture.

Three of the artists featured in the initial playlist – Pusha T, Tinashe and Diplo – have also agreed to add their own background and stories to their tracks especially for Spotify users. Genius say that there will be more playlists soon with a pop one planned to debut “VERY soon…”. You’ll also have access to background information on the song, from the producer behind the beat to the inspiration for the lyrics. Here is a full list of songs on Spotify that have “Fact Track”. Particularly when it comes to hip-hop and cryptic indie lyrics, learning about and discussing the meaning behind songs takes the music to a whole new level. “We’ve found a way to bring my fans a deeper listening experience and raise the bar for songwriters”.
