49ers CEO Jed York promises he won’t tweet so much anymore, seriously
The 49ers announced that Tomsula had been fired shortly after they completed their disappointing 2015 campaign with a 5-11 record.
The plot thickens even further when you consider the fact that it was Tomsula who convinced Jarryd Hayne to sign with San Francisco – rather than the Detroit Lions – as he made the biggest code jump in Australian sporting history.
“We are in need of someone who can win Super Bowls”, York said. He talked about wanting a coach with vision and desire to win a championship, but he offered few specifics.
His only experience as a head coach prior to landing the San Francisco job came during a single game as an interim head coach for the 49ers and for a single season in NFL Europe for the Rhein Fire.
It was an emotional, conciliatory York who spoke with the media on Monday, admitting he had taken media, fan and social media criticism too personally. “We hired Jim Harbaugh and we hired Jim Tomsula”, Baalke said.
“Any time you don’t go up and convert and do your job, you’re not going to be happy about it”, Zuerlein said.
Jed York isn’t selling the San Francisco 49ers – ever.
“The past year has been way more than what I expected”, Hayne said, while laughing as his running back teammates Kendall Gaskins and Mike Davis cracked jokes at his expense. But Jed York is not capable of getting us there. “We want to identify our candidates and go after them”. “Some would say one was a strong hit and the other one was a miss…. And we didn’t get this one right and we need to make sure that we get the next one right”.
“Trent understands that I’m not satisfied with the current state of this team”.
Tomsula was the 49ers defensive line coach prior to being promoted to head coach.
York struck a conciliatory tone throughout his press conference, repeatedly apologizing to his team’s irate fan base.
“Jim Harbaugh is a good football coach”.
“More than anything, I don’t want to be a distraction”, York said. “You get humbled by decisions you make that you think are going to work”.
“We’re willing to spend what it takes to get everything right to get back to a championship culture”. I don’t blame them for refusing to wear their red and gold gear or for finding another team to follow.
Trent Baalke will remain the team’s GM – a position he’s held since 2011 – while leading the search for a new coach. “I trust the 49ers operation and I’m always going to give it 110 percent every time I step on the field”.
