AS Roma sack coach Rudi Garcia – statement
Roma have sacked manager Rudi Garcia after a poor run of results in Serie A.
Youth club coach Alberto De Rossi is set to serve as the short-term interim manager, but former Roma manager Luciano Spalletti is widely expected to be hired to replace Garcia, according to the Associated Press.
Rudi Garcia’s Roma side struggled to win games and finished the season with a staggering 13 games drawn, drawing 12 of the latter 25 league games of the season.
“AS Roma confirms that Rudi Garcia, and his assistants Frederic Bompard and Claude Fichaux, will cease to manage its first team with immediate effect”, read a statement in English on the club’s website.
“We have had positive times together, but we think this is the right moment to change”, Pallotta said.
Roma’s indifferent form has seen them slip seven points behind leaders Napoli in Serie A and they were eliminated from the Italian Cup last month by Serie B team Spezia.
Garcia’s future has been in serious doubt for some time amid rumours concerning his role at the club emerging after the embarrassing 6-1 Champions League group stage defeat to Barcelona.
The news comes as no huge surprise after Roma dropped from top of the table and credible title contenders in Autumn, to fifth spot in the standings following last week’s home draw with Milan.
It would be a return to the Olimpico for the 56-year-old Coach, who was at the club from 2005 to 2009.
Roma face Hellas Verona on Sunday before travelling to Juve a week later.
