Not surprised Sanders is tying Clinton in Iowa, NH, polls: Biden
Vice President Joe Biden described Bernie Sanders on Monday as more authentic on economic inequality than Hillary Clinton and defended Sanders’ record on gun control.
Biden initially told CNN in an interview on January 11 that Sanders’ insistence on closing the growing gap between rich and poor Americans resonated with voters across the United States. At one point, she alluded to his mantra, telling supporters, “If that’s the kind of “revolution’ he’s talking about, I’m anxious, folks”.
Meanwhile, Fox News reported recently that sources inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation say the agency’s probe of Clinton’s use of private email servers while she was secretary of state is now expanding to issues of public corruption.
However, a poll from Quinnipiac University on Tuesday put Mr Sanders five points ahead of Ms Clinton in Iowa, 49 per cent to 44 per cent. And a new poll from Monmouth University put Mr Sanders’s lead over Ms Clinton in New Hampshire at 14 points, at 53 per cent to 39 per cent. New Hampshire votes in a primary on February 9th.
In a November Monmouth University poll, Clinton led Sanders 48 percent to 45 percent. The younger Clinton is scheduled to swing through Iowa on January 16. The senator has also pointed to favorable polls showing him outperforming Clinton in hypothetical matchups against Republicans like billionaire Donald Trump. Patrick Leahy voted against the bill. “So, no, that’s not an explanation”. She said she went after derivatives and corporate executive compensation, and that she helped influence the Dodd-Frank financial regulation bill, which passed after she left the Senate to become secretary of state.
“I wish that we could elect a Democrat who could wave a magic wand and say, ‘We shall do this and we shall do that.’ That ain’t the real world we’re living in”, Clinton said.
When Obama said last week he would not support a Democratic nominee who didn’t support “common-sense gun reform”, Clinton’s team quickly sought to turn it to their advantage, reminding voters that Sanders had backed legislation in 2005 that protected gun-makers from lawsuits. “I’m prepared to do all parts to the job”, she said, after offering voters a detailed account of her time in the Situation Room during the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Without mentioning Sanders by name, Clinton implicitly suggested he was naïve to think he would be able to implement his ideas, especially with a Republican-controlled Congress.
“I have no dislike for her or anything like that”, said Floyd Bumper, 32, of Waterloo.
“The inevitable candidate for the Democratic nomination may not be so inevitable today”, said Sanders, when asked about his standing in Iowa. “Everybody’s been out there, lots of good energy, I love it. I love the spirited debate on our side”.
Sanders said the attacks show that the Clinton campaign knows it’s in trouble.
