Pirates acquire Aramis Ramirez from Brewers
The team announced on Thursday that they have traded third baseman Aramis Ramirez to the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league reliever Yhonathan Barrios.
The #Pirates have acquired INF Aramis Ramirez from the Milwaukee Brewers. 247 with 11 homers and a. 725 OPS in 81 games this season.
Ramirez fills a void at the third base position following the injury to Josh Harrison and allows for Jung Ho Kang to focus the majority of his time at shortstop.
Ramirez was signed by the Pirates out of the Dominican Republic in 1994. The 23-year-old will report to the Brewers’ Double-A affiliate in Biloxi, Miss. He previously spent 6 years with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded at the deadline to the Chicago Cubs in 2003.
Ramirez was signed by the Pirates as an amateur free agent in 1994 and played the first six years of his career there. They designated Steve Lombardozzi for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. An additional corresponding move will have to be made when Ramirez joins the Pirates.
With the Brewers falling out of the playoff race early in the season and Ramirez on the final year of his contract, he became obvious trade bait. Barrios is a 23-year old that was converted into a pitcher back in 2013. He has a 4.60 ERA in Class AAA Indianapolis this season with nine strikeouts and eight walks across 152/3 innings.
