Facebook launches Mentions for verified public figures on Android
The Facebook Mentions app is also important as this is where the users can do their live video streaming, whether they’re at the set of their latest movie or show or backstage before their concert or at the actual venue of a breaking news story. In addition, the app provides verified users a way to share updates, photos and videos on Facebook directly through an Android device.
Facebook also included the ability to live stream video, marking Mentions as a rival to Twitter’s Periscope app which offers the same function. In a blog post today, Facebook announced that Facebook Mentions would now be available for Android. Facebook has to bestow the status on you and it is likely dependent on how many followers you have. While Facebook Mentions hasn’t entirely blown up among famous people, it could end up becoming a valuable feature for non-celebrities and those who may only need to interact with a few thousand people rather than the millions that many public figures must entertain on the platform. The reason for this is unknown, but we believe this was due to the dominance of Apple devices in the market. Facebook also launched a number of side services over the years, some of which are still around, and some are not. In the fall we saw Facebook open up a form where users could apply to become a verified user. This is why the social network giant made a decision to explore ways that could help people download its app through other means, even if Google takes the app down from Play Store.
