Obama to visit Detroit Auto Show

More than 40 new vehicles will vie for the attention of more than 5,000 journalists from around the world during official press previews at the North American International Auto Show Monday and Tuesday.

“We’re at the point where CES is as important to the industry as numerous vehicle shows”. U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to visit the show on January 20th.

The Honda Civic was named the 2016 North American Car of the Year, edging the Chevrolet Malibu and the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

If that becomes a long-term trend, it’s good news for brands such as Jeep; its Cherokee and Wrangler SUVs, built at the Toledo Assembly Complex, set model sales records previous year. “It’s a big part of what automakers are doing on the gas side of the business”.

On Monday, Fiat Chrysler unveiled the 2017 Pacifica minivan, a revamped version of its once-mighty Town & Country line that it vowed would “reinvent” the segment and is loaded with the latest technology, safety features and enough space for five auto seats. Chrysler will debut an all-new minivan, the vehicle it invented 33 years ago. These developments are troubling for the American economy and for the environment, as growing fuel consumption by larger vehicles threatens to aggravate human-made climate change.

A hatchback version of the Chevy Cruze puts GM on equal footing with the Ford Focus and other compacts that come in hatch and sedan versions.

“Every automaker here at the show is launching some form of cool technology inside the vehicles, whether it’s adaptive cruise control or Smart Stop Technology, or even utilizing 3-D printing to print out and create the interior of your vehicle”, said Michael Caudill, a USA automotive expert. Automakers have been forced to cut EV prices and sales forecasts. A decision on whether the final 2021-2025 regulations are feasible is due by April 2018, under a new president. It is down 0.9 mpg from the peak reached in August 2014, but still up 4.8 mpg since October 2007. A hybrid version gets up to 80 miles per gallon.
