Family of 4 killed in northeast Ohio house explosion
Chief Risko said, “For a fire to burn that intensely, that quickly and for these people not to have had a chance to get out, that is all part of the puzzle here isn’t it”. Carolynn Wrigth faces assault and battery charges for the incident that started when she reportedly tried to take a number of items from the Seaboard Street store around 2 p.m.
Neighbor Randy Nickschinski described the chaotic scene, saying, “It happened so fast”.
He said a total of four family members were found dead inside: a man, a woman, and their two daughters. He said firefighters battled the fire from the outside for 35 minutes before going in to search for the family, who were believed to be inside the home when the house caught fire.
However, Chief Risko ruled out a natural gas leak early on and the gas company said there were no signs of a leak.
Dominion East Ohio Gas crews were at the scene, local radio broadcaster WTAM reported. The Summit County medical examiner hasn’t released the names of the victims. That is the worst fire tragedy we have had in a very very long time.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation. Macedonia and Boston Heights Fire Departments responded for mutual aid. “You could hear it was just a roaring up there, it was intense”.
