Houston Texans Find a Familiar Face
The move was not a reaction to the special teams failure that started the Houston Texans’ playoff debacle Saturday.
The Texans have needed a quarterback for several years already, but the front office has decided not to invest in the most important position in sports for the last few years. In the AFC Wild Card game, turnovers gave Houston’s defense little rest and Kansas City possession on a short field for three possessions, two following interceptions, and one at the Chiefs 42-yard line after a fumble. Ligashesky first joined the organization in 2013 under former head coach Gary Kubiak. The Texans were among the least explosive teams in returning the football and had huge issues with kick and punt coverage all season. But looking at yesterday’s game, we have to cover kicks better, we have to return kicks better.
Overall this Texans team is headed in a positive direction.
Special teams coordinator Bob Ligashesky, receivers coach Stan Hixon and defensive assistant Anthony Pleasant will be replaced, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported Monday. McNair wants a good young quarterback and bring him along; the team wants to keep a veteran in the mix to work with their “young quarterback” when they get one.
O’Brien also expressed his disappointment with the team’s special teams play in the loss to Chiefs, calling it “not very good”. Wide receiver Jalen Strong tweeted out his support for Coach Hixon, saying “You always have a friend in me”.
