Ohio State’s Braxton Miller says he’s moving to wide receiver
Im going to have fun with that and still score a lot of touchdowns and help the team out and be dominant at that.. Miller took a redshirt season and watched as redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett started at the position he held since his true freshman year and set program records for total offense and broke Drew Brees’ Big Ten record for total touchdowns. I am happy to see that he is motivated and ready for the new challenge with a positive attitude. For all of Miller’s certainty about the plan to switch to receiver while keeping his quarterbacking sharp in workouts, Meyer denies that he has made a final decision.
Miller cited still recovering from his shoulder injury and not being able to practice at quarterback for two more months as part of the rationale.
According to the report, Miller first brought up the idea of moving to wide receiver in April, and began preparing for the role by catching passes from Barrett in May. And he also is going to work on returning punts.
Not only does Miller’s move to wideout alleviate a few of the pressure around the quarterback position for the Buckeyes, it strengthens their already-packed-with-talent roster – and improves their odds to repeat as national champion.
Now, Miller said he plans to spend 80 percent of his time during camp working with the receivers and 20 percent with the quarterbacks. “I’m sure guys miss seeing an explosive, 60-yard shake-and-bake run every once in a while”.
“I want to be the best at what I do”, Miller told Thamel. “Don’t look back. Keep looking forward”.
I’m getting the sense that there’s a head coach in Central Ohio who’s a little miffed one of his players let the position cat out of the bag earlier this evening. (In an interview with SI.com this spring, Jones didn’t sound like a man who intended to be back in 2016.) That scenario would leave Barrett as the starter for his final two years in Columbus. When Barrett went down with an injury in the regular season finale against Michigan, Jones stepped up and led the Buckeyes to three straight postseason wins – including a College Football Playoff title over Oregon.
