Cuomo to unveil budget plan and initiatives for 2016

He said one project just might be mentioned by the governor during his speech on Wednesday.

“This year, Governor Cuomo proposes the most ambitious ethics and good government reform package ever to restore New Yorker’s confidence in their representatives”, Cuomo’s budget book said.

“The governor and the Legislature must fulfill the promise of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity because our schools steer students toward their dreams”, Billy Easton, executive director of the labor-backed Alliance for Quality Education, said in a statement. Some senators said the governor is trying to outflank de Blasio on the political left. Some predict that he will at least address the task force’s recommendations to overhaul the Common Core learning standards.

A year ago, Cuomo proposed a $141.6 billion budget for the current fiscal year, which ends March 31. In December it recommended reversing Cuomo’s push to link controversial standardized test scores to teacher performance reviews, and begin a new four year transitional period to adopt the new standards.

Cuomo’s move to the political left has chafed some in the Republican-led Senate, which was a key backer of his fiscally conservative first two years in office. He calls it Albany’s “Watergate moment”.

He also said people may think Cuomo’s proposal to redesign subway stations will only impact downstate, but he said they would be wrong. He’s saying that group should have been allowed to carry out it’s full term.

“We continue to have active investigations related to substantive inquiries that were being conducted by the Moreland Commission at the time of its closure”, the statement concluded.

An investigation has found insufficient evidence that Gov. Andrew Cuomo committed a federal crime through his handling of a commission he created to root out corruption in state government, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Monday. Siena College spokesman Steve Greenberg says 2016 gives Cuomo a new opportunity to turn that around.

The governor had affectionately referred to the three of them as the three amigos.
