Pathankot Attack: Pakistan arrests JeM Chief Masood Azhar, his brother
“We are resolved to take this investigation to its conclusion”, the senior intelligence official said.
“It’s a good beginning”, Mahmud Durrani, Pakistan’s former national security adviser, said of Sharif’s move.
Understandably, the Pathankot airbase attack has put the Indian government in a hard situation, especially at a time when Modi is ready to travel miles to forge a durable peace with Pakistan.
Bilkulonline.com, Ahmedabad, Jan 12: India can not tackle terrorism through mere talks with Pakistan, VHP’s global president Pravin Togadia said on Monday, asserting that if extremists managed to enter the highly fortified air base in Pathankot, creating havoc among common people was like a walk in the park for them. “We know that Kargil happened after (prime minister Atal Bihari) Vajpayee’s visit to Lahore in 1999; Mumbai occurred after progress in the backchannel talks of the mid-2000s; and now Pathankot takes place after another Lahore yatra (trip)”, Qazi said in an article titled “Pathnakot and power plays”, in Dawn newspaper.
As per CNN-IBN news channel, the NIA probe has established that insider help – willingly or unwillingly – was provided to terrorists who attacked the airbase early on January 2 this year.
Qazi served as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India from 1997-2002, Ambassador to China from 1994 to 1997 and to Russian Federation from 1991-1994.
Some even feared that Pakistan’s powerful military establishment, rumoured to be unhappy with Sharif’s determination for rapid rapprochement with India, may have authorised the attacks.
“Pakistan to send special investigation team to India for further investigation of terrorist attack”, a Pak PM House statement said.
Speaking on the sidelines of BJP’s Kisan Morcha, Singh said, “The Pakistan government has assured it will take effective action”.
“India simply can’t create pressure on Pakistan when it comes to terrorism”. Same case should be applied on Pakistan, India and Bangladesh ties, he added. The Pakistan government has Indian version of Aadhar – National Database Registration Authority which also stores biometerics of all its citizens.
Pakistan, meanwhile, has asked for more proof in the Pathankot incident.
But the way Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif agreed to conduct independent investigation to find out if Pakistan was also involved shows Pakistan believes it may have “performed” some role in the terror exercise at Pathankot.
But Pakistani officials have told their media that the information given by India was not enough and may not stand scrutiny in a court of law. If so, how and why?
