Man held without bail in convenience store knife attack
A knife-wielding man made the mistake of holding up a Fall River convenience store, only to end up in a duel with the owner.
Authorities say Tirado-Sanchez entered Jarek’s Market on Sunday, jumped on the counter and swung a large knife at the store’s owner while demanding money.
A MA store owner brandished a knife to defend himself from a similarly armed robber, leading to a knife fight that ended without anyone getting cut.
The video shows the men swinging their knives at one another, but neither makes contact.
The suspect has been charged with armed robbery while masked, armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a risky weapon, and vandalizing property.
“Of course I was scared, but I didn’t have a choice”, the store clerk said.
“I had to do what I had to do to protect myself”, the store clerk, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Falls River Herald with a bandaid on his face.
In the video, the knife fight between the robber and the store clerk lasts over a minute until the clerk disarms the knife from the robber’s hand. The attacker lost his knife, and that’s when the store owner threw it at him along with $300. “I think he wanted to kill me”, the victim said.
Fall River Police Department Neither man was seriously hurt after the burglary, police said.
The CBS station reported police apprehended Jose Tirado-Sanchez the next day, after they noticed he was a fit with the suspect description.
