New York Coachella to Become a Thing This Summer
The announcement follows a petition launched by the organizers behind NYC’s Governors Ball festival to reject a proposal for Panorama that had scheduled its dates for June at the same park.
Los Angeles-based promoter Goldenvoice is the force behind Panorama.
Panorama – the East Coast music festival from Coachella producers Goldenvoice – is happening, now set for July 22 – 24 at Randall’s Island, reports Billboard.
With a festival like the Governors Ball already taking place at Randall’s Island Park, Panorama could bleed into the Governors Ball’s territory (and vice-versa).
The festival will be facing some competition from the Governor’s Ball Music Festival, which also takes place in the same NYC location on Jun. 3-5. “Scheduling two same-genre festivals on top of each other like this makes it hard for either to provide the maximum benefit to its fans, its neighbors and taxpayers”. He explained to the NY Daily News, “While we are heartened by the interest in one of Queens’ most historic parks, our primary concern is ensuring the park is available for the many New Yorkers who call Flushing Meadows Corona Park their backyard”.
Panorama has not yet announced its lineup.
While a festival lineup hasn’t been announced thus far, it will likely include a similar array of popular musicians from around the world as the company’s well-established California effort.
Regardless if you believe summer festivals are over-saturated, more and more are popping up.
