Delph to start for Man City, Dzeko could leave
Edin Dzeko’s future at Manchester City remains uncertain, with manager Manuel Pellegrini suggesting he will not feature in the club’s pre-season games until the matter is resolved.
Bosnia’s Dzeko played no part when City beat Italy’s AS Roma on penalties at the MCG on Tuesday, with Pellegrini confirming that it was a result of the transfer negotiations. The Bosnian global only completed 90 minutes in two of his 22 appearances in the Premier League.
Talented Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho, Spanish midfielder Manu Garcia and English defender Cameron Humphreys are the players in question and according to Pellegrini, all three could be given chances in the upcoming campaign if they continue to impress in pre-season matches and training.
The Chilean managed Real in the 2009-10 season and added: “It’s always special to play against Real Madrid, especially because of the way the fans supported me when I left there”.
“So we are working in Manchester with the young players”. The 61-year-old Pellegrini said the City could make further acquisitions before the start of the season, but has not named any targets yet.
“It is important (the Champions League). I am not talking about names or positions but in the next days probably you will see who will arrive here”, Pellegrini said. “It’s clear that I have my contract at City and I want to see out my contract”.
“The target of the club is to reach Madrid and Barcelona level…if we are doing well at City I am sure good players will come”.
