In a ‘unique’ season, Peyton Manning says he’s is ready for playoffs
In 2006, Roethlisberger sprained the sternoclavicular joint in his right shoulder following a hit by Baltimore’s Bart Scott, one of nine sacks suffered by the Steelers’ quarterback in a 27-0 loss against the Ravens.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback said on his radio show Tuesday he’s dealing with torn ligaments and a sprain in his right shoulder, though coach Mike Tomlin stressed the team remains hopeful Roethlisberger will be ready for Sunday’s playoff visit to Denver.
“You want to be a tough guy”, Roethlisberger said.
But some also insist that just being where they are is sufficient motivation. Though the pain in the shoulder has eased a bit since Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict drove it into the rain-soaked turf at Paul Brown Stadium in the third quarter of last Saturday’s 18-16 wild-card win, Roethlisberger knows there’s a difference between fending off your two sons and chucking a football 30 yards downfield against the NFL’s best defense.
“I obviously haven’t played a ton here in the last few weeks”, Manning said Wednesday. “I think that’s just who my family is”, he said.
Ben Roethlisberger is running out of time. His adrenaline-fueled game-winning drive against the Bengals included six passes that were little more than flips and flares.
“Cincinnati is afforded the opportunity to sit around days after and rehash what happened”, he said.
Tomlin admitted the idea of playing without the NFL’s second-leading receiver is “unpleasant” but one he’ll have to consider after Brown took a shoulder to the head from Burfict with 22 seconds to go. The penalty fallout from the play propelled the Steelers into easy field goal range.
While the Steelers are hoping and even expecting Ben Roethlisberger and All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown to play against the Broncos, they are not sure just how each might be able to perform coming off their injuries.
“So I went over to the sideline and said, ‘Coach you can’t do that anymore, I can’t throw it that far.’ We knew we had to work our way down the field”.
Miller has a point.
“We got lucky last time”.
“You have to have short-term memory, good or bad”, Roethlisberger said. “But now I know enough that I could play fast”. The best revenge will be sending Wallace and the Steelers home early. Hard to blame Denver.
Brown dominated a depleted Denver secondary for 189 yards receiving and two touchdowns in his first meeting with the Broncos. They can win without their franchise quarterback, and they’ve proven it.
The Steelers didn’t run their offense any differently without Roethlisberger, Wheaton said. “We throw it short, we throw it long, we run it. We do all kinds of things”.
“I can’t tell you anything about what Antonio Brown did in the past, I can only tell you that statement was outrageous”, Kasdan said. According to The Denver Post, other Broncos like running back C.J. Anderson said Manning’s meticulous and methodical audible calls at the line of scrimmage were on full display when he stepped in for Osweiler against rival San Diego in Week 17.
