The Aquaman Movie Wants to Crown Amber Heard as Queen of Atlantis
The character Heard is interested in playing is Mera, the woman typically seen as “Aquaman’s girlfriend”, but there’s more to her than that. She would make her first appearance in Justice League and then have a larger role in Aquaman with Jason Momoa. It’s perhaps best not to ponder on such soap operatics; especially in light of the fact that Aquaman, as is traditional in superhero comics, soon recovered.
The Texas-born beauty has been on a winning steak in the past year with roles in The Danish Girl, The Adderall Diaries and Magic Mike XXL.
Per DC Comics’ website, Mera’s powers include “super strength, Durability, Control over water, Exceptional swimming ability [and the] Ability to breathe underwater”. Heard will first appear in Justice League Part One, if chosen.
Aquaman is now on a dual track development, with scripts written by both Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire) and David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2). Following his big team up with other DC heroes in 2017s Justice League: Part One, hell finally get to strike out on his own in Aquaman. Created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, Aquaman went on to become a founding member of the Justice League of America two decades later.
A big storyline in the comics was the death of her and Aquaman’s son. Now DC’s The New 52 version of Aquaman, along with the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game, looks to be a kind of an inspiration for the upcoming DC Extended Universe.
Jason Momoa will command the seven (possibly with Amber Heard by his side?) when James Wan’s Aquaman film roars to life on July 27, 2018.
