Giants Will Reportedly Hire Ben McAdoo as Their Next Head Coach
Earlier today, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Giants “liked” former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith and had “similar feelings” for former Buffalo Bills head coach and current Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach Doug Marrone. The team wants to keep him with quarterback Eli Manning and believes in his vision for the offense.
The Philadelphia Eagles have beaten the New York Giants four straight times on the football field, but it appears they lost to them in the battle for a new head coach. There was no official announcement from the Giants, and none was expected on Wednesday night.
There are many benefits from having McAdoo as the next Giants’ head coach. Gase was hired as the Miami Dolphins’ head coach last weekend.
The Eagles have now failed to obtain two of their top coaching choices, missing out on both McAdoo and Adam Gase.
It didn’t hurt that Manning voiced support for his coach after the season. Spagnuolo will reportedly stay on as defensive coordinator. Instead of the big name hire, the Giants are keeping a man the offense -which has some pretty prominent players- is more than comfortable with. “I figured him or Spagz would have been a great pick”. He has never been a head coach.
That aggressive play calling, though, has been a part of McAdoo’s game.
The Giants have been seeking a replacement for Coughlin, who resigned last week after coaching them to two Super Bowl championships in his 12 seasons in NY.
