Vontaze Burfict, Bengals LB, suspended for first three games of 2016 season
On Monday, Burfict was suspended for the first three games of the 2016 season for “repeated violations of player safety rules”, including his concussion-causing hit on Antonio Brown.
Burfict was penalized on the play, which helped move Pittsburgh closer to field-goal range with the Bengals holding a 16-15 lead.
PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping injured stars Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown will play Sunday against Denver in the divisional round of the playoffs.
While Jones said he’s willing to apologize, he still thinks he’s right and Brown will suit up.
Jones also told Marshall that Vontaze Burfict’s hit on Brown, which sent the Steelers wideout into concussion protocol, was clean.
Roethlisberger, who intends to play Sunday, added that he has not thrown since the game against the Bengals.
“The (expletive) ref did a disgusting (expletive) job”, Jones said in the now-deleted video.
Roethlisberger wouldn’t speculate on his status for the game, although Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said he expects Big Ben to go and that the Broncos are planning accordingly. “Go back and look at the play”. “You got (expletive) Jerry Porter in the middle of the (expletive) field talking (expletive) to everybody and then when somebody says something to him … he isn’t even supposed to be on the (expletive) field”.
He drew a $50,000 fine for unnecessarily contacting an opponent who was out of play during the regular-season finale against Baltimore. You can count on us to keep an eye on the injury itself. “I said, ‘AB, you all right?’ Now if you’re knocked out, you think you’re going to be able to wink and think about all that at the same time”. The league disagrees – it was the final straw in the three-game suspension they handed Burfict earlier this week. He’s had three penalties this season for unnecessary roughness. The Steelers won the game 18-16, eliminating the Bengals from the playoffs. I know he is excited about that and getting an opportunity to physically prepare, and hopefully getting an opportunity from his perspective to rebound.
