Hue Jackson takes over lowly Browns: “I came here to win”.
Now that the Cleveland Browns have reportedly hired Hue Jackson as their new head coach, it appears one of the first orders of business for the franchise will be divesting itself of 2014 first-round pick Johnny Manziel.
Jackson brings head coaching experience, knowledge of the AFC North and a knack for fixing quarterbacks to the Browns, who fired Mike Pettine following a 3-13 season.
“What a tremendous honor and privilege to be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns and a part of the Dawg Pound”, Jackson said in a release from the team. I want to make sure I know what we’re going to put on our team, but at the same time, give me player so I can coach them. “We want to support him in any way we can”.
Hue Jackson feels that he attracts so many around him because he pushes his peers to be the best they can be. “So I understood where they had been and where they’re trying to go, and I like challenges”. Pettine was 10-22 in those two seasons with the Browns.
For those reasons, along with the praise of his peers, Jackson brims with confidence, even he heads towards a daunting task: turning around the Cleveland Browns. Jackson’s coaching skills turned both receivers into the Bengals’ first 1,000-yard single-season receiving tandem.
“If I didn’t think there was a chance to do something special here, I wouldn’t be here”, said Jackson, who said that during his interview, Haslam admitted, “I’ve had success in most things in my life – except this”. I pulled into the parking lot across the street about five minutes before Haslam arrived in a black SUV, driving Jackson from the airport. The hiring comes as a shock since Jackson was sought by the New York Giants.
The history of turnover didn’t stop Jackson, 50, from canceling an interview with the New York Giants – the standard of stability and victor of two Super Bowls since the 2007 season – and signing a contract Wednesday to lead the Browns.
“I think this Hue Jackson will do a good job he’s got a good track record the other guys that we’ve hired all had agendas and I think this guys gonna be good I really do”, said Franceschelli.
In addition to coaching college football for more than a decade, he has also had coaching stints with the Washington Redskins, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens since entering the NFL in the 2001-02 season.
This speaks to the Browns’ new front office of analytically oriented executives such as Paul DePodesta and Sashi Brown having the same feelings about their new coach.
After only a one-year stint in Oakland as head coach in 2011, in which the team went 8-8 for the Raiders’ best finish since 2002, Jackson is looking to prove he can be a successful head coach in this league.
According to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the Browns will “look hard” at taking a quarterback in the NFL Draft if they like who’s available with their on the clock with the second overall pick.
