Bill Clinton: I’m not surprised this race is tightening
Sanders is advocating moving to a single-payer health-care system under which all Americans would be enrolled in Medicare, and private insurance would become a thing of the past.
Front-runner Hillary Clinton, challenged anew in the Democratic presidential campaign by Bernie Sanders, is reverting to some of the same themes from her 2008 primary loss to Barack Obama.
Sanders, speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash after exiting Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, said Clinton’s jabs at his record on guns and health care were more motivated by fear of his strength as a candidate. “Bernie Sanders’ campaign is gaining ground or leading in the Iowa caucuses, Clinton’s campaign has stepped up attacks on Sanders and his health care proposal”, the statement reads.
The former attorney general will campaign for Clinton in an upcoming swing to SC, accompanying her to a state Democratic Party dinner Saturday and a Sunday debate sponsored by NBC News and the Congressional Black Caucus.
The new numbers come as the Vermont senator claims his first slim lead in the crucial state of Iowa and extends his lead in New Hampshire – posing a threat to the Democratic frontrunner in the two first crucial contests.
“The fresh critique marks an effort by Clinton to undermine the central argument of Sanders” campaign- that the Vermont senator is an outsider offering liberals a “political revolution”.
Now Sanders has taken to trolling Clinton on Twitter, using Team Clinton’s words against her in defense of his universal healthcare plan. Clinton campaign officials say that’s to be expected, because he is well known there.
Well, maybe not the support from the DNC, but we have the support from the American people.
Clinton hit Sanders at an event in Ames – where she also picked up an endorsement from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence – for bragging about standing up to special interests, but siding with the National Rifle Association on certain legislation. “You think this is a joke, but Bernie Sanders released an actual folk album in 1987 titled ‘We Shall Overcome.'” The excerpts are priceless. Every analysis shows it’s going to cost middle class families and working families and also explain why after this historic achievement of president Obama, we’ve been fighting to get some kind of a affordable care since harry Truman. His plan is expensive (some $15 trillion) and would likely require middle-class tax hikes, Clinton’s campaign has pointed out.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, right, and Sen.
“I don’t pay attention to this”, Clinton said of the polling. “I worry if we give Republicans democratic permission to do that, we’ll go back to an era – before we had the Affordable Care Act – that would strip millions and millions and millions of people of their health insurance”.
Chelsea, on the other hand, married a former Goldman Sachs investment banker, lives in an expensive New York City condo, serves on several boards including her father’s controversial Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative, and previously worked at a hedge fund.
