YouTube’s PewDiePie and Disney’s Maker Studios partner for new online network
In a partnership with Disney-owned Maker Studios, Internet and YouTube sensation PewDiePie has announced the launch of a new content network called Revelmode which will feature other YouTube creators and himself in a bunch of original series among other things. Felix Kjellberg, aka PewDiePie, the #1 most-subscribed YouTube creator in the world, and his creator friends including Kwebbelkop, EmmaBlackery and Dodger, come together with Maker Studios to create a dynamic network for today’s digital age. Think of him as an artist with enough success to demand more autonomy, a musician who is now creating an indie label backed by a major, one that he hopes will have better values and be more responsive to its members, even if it loses a “little bit of hipster cred” for being funded by the same giant corporation in the end.
Swedish-born 26-year-old Felix Kjellberg is YouTube’s biggest personality with more than 40 million subscribers on his personal channel and well over 10 billion views in total on his videos. “He is an wonderful talent, a great partner and the pulse of millenial pop culture. We firmly believe in his vision for Revelmode and his chosen creators – we can’t wait to see the possibilities ahead”.
PewDiePie in tandem with his talented partners will channel their energies towards the creation of music, animatoons, charity drives, one-off videos, original series and more.
Like PewDiePie, Revelmode talent will also work to raise awareness over various charity causes and organizations including Save the Children. It will have video content, focus on game development, commercial partnerships and philanthropic programs. Kjellberg’s first foray into the space was a collaboration with Outerminds called “Legend of the Brofist”, which debuted at No. 1 in the iTunes Store and remained in the top spot for more than three weeks.
While Revelmode’s launch squad is made up of established online stars, it will also be seeking out emerging YouTube creators who are taking Kyncl up on that challenge.
