The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing is estimated to be more than $1 billion, the largest lottery jackpot in the world. The identity of the victor was not yet known. The winners have not yet come forward.
If there is just a single victor, and they choose to take the cash prize instead of an annual payout stretched out over 29 years, they would receive a $930 million lump sum.
One winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in Chino Hills, Calif., a spokesman for that state’s lottery said.
But a winning ticket will still be a staggering payday. The winners’ names have yet to be revealed.
Representatives for the Tennessee and Florida lotteries couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
A news release from Tennessee lottery officials says the state also has a ticket that won $2 million. “Chino Hills!” as they squeezed into the store and spilled out into the parking lot. Many chanted, “Chino Hills!”
“It’s history. We’re all so excited for our city”, Rita Talwar, 52, who has lived in Chino Hills for 30 years, told the local newspaper, the San Bernardino Sun.
