Jamie Vardy may return for Leicester City’s clash with Tottenham following
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has hailed the strength in depth of his squad after playing out a 2-2 draw with Tottenham in the FA Cup on Sunday.
“Both clubs played fringe players in the FA Cup on Sunday but will revert to their strongest line-ups for a game that could carry huge significance in the race for the Champions League places and a potential title challenge”.
Kane’s England team-mate Jamie Vardy hopes to return to the Leicester line-up just eight days after undergoing surgery on a groin injury but faces a late test on his fitness. The market is very hard in winter and our power is in the changing room, within the squad and the team.
Pochettino said: “We are happy in the end to get the draw and stay alive in the competition but if you analyse the first 45 minutes we dominated the game like Everton”.
Kane believes Tottenham will continue to kick on with a positive stride and was keen to praise the club’s supporters for their much-needed energy, especially during the second half.
“It doesn’t make it easy [for Leicester], but we are confident in our policy, the owner wants to arrive at the top”.
He admitted: “What my players say is not important – the ref gave a penalty so it was. It’s always tough after six months but it will be good for him to train again with the group and now he has to get to a better level so he can compete with his team-mates”.
He said: “I’m sure there will be changes in the teams but there is a bit of a momentum swing into our favour scoring a last-minute goal, we will take that momentum into Wednesday’s game and go for the win”.
“He needs to play – in my opinion he is a very good goalscorer with good skills”.
Leicester travel to play fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
Pochettino praised the job Ranieri has done this season and said as a player he nearly left Espanyol to join the Italian, when he was manager at Atletico Madrid.
“It will be another kind of match with the normal players from me and Mauricio”. “It’s true that Harry Kane is our only proper striker but we can use different players that can play in a second line and help him, like Son and [Clinton] Njie and [Nacer] Chadli”.
