Trump New Favorite to Take Republican Nomination, Betfair Says
Moderators: FBN’s Sandra Smith and Trish Regan will moderate the 6 p.m. debate; FBN’s Managing Editor of Business News Neil Cavuto and Global Markets Editor Maria Bartiromo will moderate the 9 p.m. debates. The confrontation, widely expected in the last debate, didn’t happen. With voters getting ready to start making their choices in just weeks, every charge and countercharge will be magnified. The other thing is there are still people who think Trump’s not gonna make it. There are some who think that Trump’s supporters are not gonna caucus. Tea party flame-thrower Ted Cruz is showing voters his softer side during his presidential campaign in Iowa, whether through his joke-laced stump speech or one-on-one interactions. Trump tweeted on Tuesday, repeating an attack he has used on the campaign trail.
Cruz is an American citizen from birth, having been born in Canada to a mother who was an American citizen and a Cuban father. (Rubio now sits in a distant third place with 13 percent.) Based only on the state polls, Nate Silver and his FiveThirtyEight team peg Cruz’s current chances at winning the caucus at 42 percent, and Trump’s chances at winning at 40 percent. Cruz is on top in the first primary contest state with 25% support, ahead of Trump with 22%, though that’s within the poll’s 4.4 percentage point margin of error. Does a potential commander in chief know what the nuclear triad is, much less is he or she prepared and able to strengthen it and keep this country safe? In recent days, he’s criticized the real estate developer on taxes, guns and health care, saying Trump would not apply conservative principles to the nation’s problems.
“You know it’s interesting, this issue did not seem to concern Donald until a little over a week ago when suddenly he was trailing in the polls in Iowa”, Cruz told reporters in SC on Wednesday.
The lines of attack are similar to those launched by other rivals hoping to take down Trump. Trump says he’ll make Cruz’s citizenship a key issue in the debate.
Only seven candidates will be on the prime-time stage for the debate that comes less than three weeks before actual voting starts with the Iowa caucuses on February 1. The RealClearPolitics average of those polls, meanwhile, has Cruz with a scant, half-point lead on Trump, 26.7 percent to 26.2 percent-down from four points shortly before Christmas.
“Carly Fiorina has and always will do exceptionally well on the debate stage, and she has proven beyond the shadow of any doubt what kind of candidate she is, and Thursday night will give her yet another opportunity to visibly demonstrate her credentials and capabilities to be commander in chief”, Mr. Gerow said.
The stage this time will be notably less crowded. Paul is boycotting the event altogether after failing to meet the national and early state polling threshold for entry.
A new ad from a Hillary Clinton-aligned super-PAC attacks Ted Cruz as even more “dangerous” than fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
While the spotlight may shine on the two frontrunners, the rivalry among the establishment-oriented candidates could be even more consequential.
Donald Trump is not happy with his microphone and he is not afraid to express it. Until then, no candidate is letting up. The other depicts Rubio as a weather vane on a barn, going whichever way the wind blows.
The Florida senator’s growing list of endorsements from lawmakers are a sign he is becoming a favorite of the Republican “establishment”.
