Blue Bell Starts Production at the Alabama Plant
The months since have seen thousands of employees laid off or furloughed, as well as recent financial backing from Fort Worth billionaire Sid Bass to keep the company afloat. Today our machines cranked up and we began evaluating our enhanced production processes.
After dealing with shutdown within the wake of Listerine contamination in its merchandise, Blue Bell creameries said on Tuesday that a prominent businessman from Texas is making an investment within the firm to assist it claw back to well being and develop from there. They started pulling products in March and made its a voluntary recall of all its products in April. No timetable has been given for when Blue Bell ice cream will once again be for sale. In response to an email inquiry, spokeswoman Jenny Van Dorf said, “We hope to resume production there [Sylacauga] before the end of the month, but have not confirmed a date at this time”. FDA investigators discovered over the course of their examination of Blue Bell that surfaces at the company’s facilities had been testing positive for listeria for years, but Blue Bell never tested the ice cream for the bacteria.
No word yet on if or when production will resume at the Broken Arrow plant.
The test production trial runs are being conducted at their Sylacauga, Alabama, plant.
Blue Bell Creameries products were linked to three deaths in Kansas and seven other cases of listeria illness earlier this year.
