Iowa Poll: Trump Jumps Ahead of Cruz In First Caucus State
The unspoken truce between Texas Sen.
One volunteer leader enlisted by Donald J. Trump to turn out Iowa voters has yet to knock on a single door or to make a phone call.
Can Cruz really keep ignoring Trump?
Senator Ted Cruz is showing some power nowadays as his statistics are rising among the Republican presidential hopefuls, but that rise isn’t without its hazards.
Now the once cordial relationship has turned toxic.
The central problem Republican elites face is that their favored candidates (Rubio and Bush, but also John Kasich and Chris Christie) both outnumber Cruz and Trump, and are fighting amongst themselves over a smaller and shrinking portion of the GOP electorate.
“Let’s see how the votes go before we panic”, said Washington-based Republican operative John Feehery, who has been critical of Cruz and Trump.
“It’s a stupid issue, but the Republicans are reaping their own sour oats”, said Herzik, a registered Republican. “And frankly if you would’ve been there, and if you would’ve lived through that like I did with NY people – the way they handled that attack was one of the most incredible things that anybody has ever seen”. Ted Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida.
Cruz gained Attorney General Adam Laxalt’s endorsement Wednesday. So it’s hard to imagine how the candidate might use Thursday’s debate to engineer an electric moment – and ward off being left for dead in the 2016 race.
Need: If you come at the king, you best not miss.
Rand Paul was invited to participate in the 6 p.m. debate, but he declined.
After saying for months that he didn’t want to get into a “cage match” with Trump, Cruz on Tuesday tried out a series of attacks on the billionaire developer, casting him as a less-than-pure conservative who is poorly prepared for the challenges facing the USA from overseas.
While Rubio is now the strongest, polling in third place in Iowa and second place in New Hampshire, he has yet to break through in any one state and rivals have raised questions about his rather lackadaisical schedule on the campaign trail.
Undercard debate: Fiorina, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum.
“By any reasonable criteria Senator Paul has a top tier campaign”, the statement read.
Supporters began lining up at dawn for a 7 p.m. rally in Burlington, Vermont, this past week, while in MA and New Hampshire, hundreds stood outside in the bitter cold for hours waiting to get in. He may also go after Christie and Bush for supporting an Internet sales tax.
“I’ve been to New Hampshire in 1980, ’84, ’88, and ’92 and watched how that state has moved”, he said.
Carson is not a natural on offense and he does not convey dominance on the debate stage.
“Predictably everyone on that stage is very wealthy and I’m sure every one on that stage has at one point used that”.
Rogich suspected the debate would have more substance than previous forums given there are only seven on the main stage.
“Right now, the personality and the fighter, and somebody that’s going to metaphorically blow up the political system, seems to be more important than how someone may square up in a hypothetical race against Hillary”, said Matt Strawn, former Iowa GOP chairman. “I’ve laid out the most detailed plans to take conservative principles that all of us believe in”.
