Hibs knock back Gers Allan bid (From Evening Times)
Express Sport understands the Light Blues made another bid that was rejected out of hand by Easter Road chief executive Leeann Dempster. He’s been kept addressed of everything that’s happening.
Hibernian confirmed this morning that they have rejected an offer from Rangers for midfielder Scott Allan.
Speculation has been rife all summer however the size of the bid is seen by many fans as insultingly low and merely an attempt to unsettle the Glaswegian before Saturday’s Petrofac Cup tie at Easter Road.
Amounts vary but it appears £175,000 up to a maximum of £225,00 has been offered by Rangers, I wouldn’t say this is “spending whatever it takes” to get out of the Scottish Championship, would you?
Speaking before Rangers renewed effort to lure Allan away, Stubbs said: “We were very up-front”.
‘I’ve spoken with Scott and told him exactly the situation, that there has been an offer and that it has been rejected.
“He was aware – I’m sure his advisors had told him”. They mustn’t rate him very highly going by the bid.
As everyone knows, Allan is central to Hibs hopes of clinching promotion at the second time of asking and, to that end, Stubbs insisted Rangers would be the last club to which they’d consider selling.
Allan only joined the Edinburgh-based club last summer after leaving Premier League outfit West Brom.
It’s a team game but sell Allan to Rangers and we might as well kiss goodbye to our chances of winning the Championship this season hadn’t we?
‘When something happens we just have to respond, and that is what we’re doing, ‘ said the Hibs manager. You don’t sell your best players.
“He’s a professional footballer, you have to get your head right, no matter the decision made”, explained Stubbs.
Stanton is a big admirer of Allan and is keeping his fingers crossed Hibs can win the battle of wills should Championship title rivals Rangers increase their initial offer for the player.
“It doesn’t say a lot for what Rangers think of the player, I think that’s probably the best way to put it”, said the former Celtic and Everton defender.
