Top GOP female says judge Gov. Haley on ability, not looks
“Number One, she’s very weak on illegal immigration”. “Mr. Trump has definitely contributed to what I think is just irresponsible talk”, Haley told “Today” show co-host Matt Lauer.
“She comes up to my office when she wants campaign contributions, and I’ve given her tremendous contribution over the years”, Trump said.
Haley, he said, has asked him for “a hell of a lot of money” in the past. When the sound is quieter, you can actually hear what someone else is saying.
Haley took on GOP front-runner Donald Trump (not by name) when she cautioned against following “the siren call of the angriest voices”.
The Republican governor took a softer tone on immigration and denounced the anti-immigrant rhetoric being used on the campaign trail by Trump and other GOP 2016 hopefuls.
Laura Ingraham, a conservative political commentator, described Haley as an “establishment fave” who should have teamed up with Obama for a joint-rebuttal of Trump and Texas Sen.
Trump said Haley, who turns 44 next week, was not off to a good start if she wants to be his running mate. “I am angry. I’m angry, and a lot of other people are angry too at how incompetently our country is being run. We must resist that temptation”, Haley said in the GOP’s formal response to Obama’s speech.
After getting Louis’s take, Costello turned back to Shachtman as she recalled: “And lest we forget, Noah, Nikki Haley is conservative. Believe me. Because they don’t like what’s happening in our country”, he continued.
“Look, that doesn’t mean that we agree with Governor Haley on everything; we surely don’t”, Obama’s press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.
Haley then turned her attention to the recent tragedy in Charleston, S.C., when nine people were gunned down during a prayer meeting at a historically black church.
Trump responded to Haley’s comments Wednesday, calling in to Fox & Friends.
When asked if that was a reference to Trump, Haley replied, “He was one of them, yes”.
Her performance has also intensified speculation she might be the top vice presidential pick for whoever wins the Republican nomination. But I guess now that I’m running (for President), she doesn’t like me quite as much.
She added that Haley “should be on anyone’s short list for vice president based upon her record, based upon her leadership, her record as governor in SC and what she represents for the future”. And it prompted a sharp backlash from some of the party’s most fervent conservative voices.
He countered the negativity of Donald Trump, who promises to keep out Muslims and “Make America Great Again”, and Texas Sen.
Trump said his criticisms did not extend to the “incredible people” of SC, where the Republican said has a “massive lead” in the polls.
