‘Hairspray’ is NBC’s next live musical
Following the success of NBC’s live adaptation of The Wiz, the network’s next live musical will be Hairspray, network boss Robert Greenblatt announced at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Wednesday.
After a panel, NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt was asked if Fallon had a drinking problem.
That didn’t happen (as far as we know), but the fact that the network never came out and denied the reports led many to believe that some higher-ups were, in fact, anxious about Fallon’s drinking.
Greenblatt did admit that Fallon likes to have fun and has had accidents, but “Aside from that, he’s in better shape than he’s ever been”.
“We are always anxious about his safety and health”, he said. Not everything’s going to be a big name to the whole audience.
A live production of the stage musical “Hairspray” may be coming to NBC this year.
Bust out those aerosol cans – NBC has chosen “Hairspray” to be its next live musical. “I think it’s unrealistic for a decade or so, but check back with me then”. This was actually a super last-minute announcement as NBC closed the deal for the musical mere moments before NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt made the announcement at TCA today.
“I went to the ER and I said, ‘I tripped holding a bottle of Jagermeister, ‘” he joked afterwards. On Feb. 21, the network will air an all-star tribute to legendary TV director James Burrows that will feature appearances by the cast members of numerous shows he directed, including all six stars from Friends.
Greenblatt also had a playful response to CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller’s comment at TCA yesterday, “I’m just a gay guy from IN who doesn’t play basketball”.
“We have dream casting, but it’s too early,”Greenblatt told Us Weekly”.
