YouTube CBO announces GoPro partnership, HDR video support during CES keynote
YouTube may not take over the world by 2020, but digital video will, predicts one of YouTube’s top execs.
Four years ago he also predicted that by 2020, 75 percent of all video content would be transmitted via the Internet instead of old-fashioned television.
Patterns will continue to shift dramatically, and digital video will become the only way consumers will get their daily dose of entertainment, education and media surfing, Kyncl said and continued to cite trends such as virtual reality, mobile viewing and music streaming platforms. Fourth, digital video can provide a more immersive experience on mobile devices than it does on computers or TVs. YouTube has been pushing into 360 degree and 3D video, moves which Kyncl believes will lay the groundwork for virtual reality on the platform. Over the last year, TV viewing dropped 9 percent among 18- to 34-year-olds, while they spent 48 percent more time on YouTube. “And since we know mobile video is exploding, formats that lend themselves to mobile storytelling will grow along with them”.
More than a million Google Cardboard viewers were sent to NYT subscribers as part of the initiative. “YouTube is a democratic platform where anyone can create something and everyone can watch”, said Kyncl. Since YouTube offers that democracy, anyone can then create and share their own content. The content diversity gives users more choices and YouTube Red will only add to that since it will produce original content from YouTube’s most viral celebrities.
Mr. Kyncl has been working with YouTube for five years now.
YouTube sees a future where more folks will be watching video than television. Braun also explained that “video has never been more important to music” as it is right now, and explained that “It’s not about a billion impressions”. GoPro is planning to release an entry-level spherical capture camera this year to encourage more 360-degree content productions.
In other news, Kyncl brought Nick Woodman of GoPro to the stage, announcing the partnership between the two.
