Pete Carroll: Marshawn Lynch day-to-day for Seahawks
“He didn’t have the confidence that he would be able to go”, Carroll said.
At the postgame news conference, an emotional Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he was proud of the way his team performed throughout the season, especially Sunday. Other Vikings were simply in a state of shock.
What transpired with less than:30 remaining in the game proved to be one of the most disappointing moments in Minnesota’s National Football League history, as Blair Walsh was wide left on a 27-yard field goal, sending the Seahawks to North Carolina next weekend. Walsh is quoted as saying by the Vikings’ official website. “It’s shameful. I have to do better”.
Maybe that fluky-looking missed field goal wasn’t a total fluke after all.
Richard Sherman had almost blocked one of Walsh’s made attempts earlier in the game and Carroll said re-watching the game it was obvious that Walsh was quicker in his approach and kick than his previous attempts.
Peterson is bad for the offense and the team, they said. “And I think that’s what hurts the most is that we don’t get an opportunity to continue to do that”. “It’s kind of hard to swallow and really hard to explain”. The laces were facing the wrong way, sure, but Walsh took all the heat for the miss. Walsh made field goals from 22 yards in the first quarter and a pair of kicks over 40 yards in the third quarter. “I can’t tell you”.
The Seahawks might have gotten some good fortune at the end of the game Sunday, but they didn’t steal the win. And for much of the game, victory over the two-time defending NFC champion Seahawks appeared within reach.
The temperature at kickoff at TFC Bank Stadium was -6 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -25.
But the Seahawks lost the next nine road playoff games, finally breaking through again 29 years later, at Washington, in a wild card round game against the Redskins following the 2012 season.
“It was brutal conditions”, Greenway said.
The kick that could have given Minnesota a victory over the Seahawks in an NFC wild-card playoff game Sunday.
The Seahawks didn’t score until Russell Wilson’s short touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin early in the fourth quarter.
Instead, Wilson picked up the ball, sidestepped a blitzing Captain Munnerlyn and threw the ball deep to a wide-open Tyler Lockett in the middle of the field.
“I actually didn’t see it. I was swimming at the pool, at the YMCA with my son”, Gostkowski said. It was a good snap, actually…. “Obviously, I saw the replays”.
So it’s hardly exaggerating to suggest 2016 will be a big year for the Vikings and their workhorse running back as they move into a new stadium and try to take another step or two. Teddy Bridgewater was 17 for 24 for 146 yards….
But Kam Chancellor yanked the ball out of Peterson’s arm as he fell to the turf, and Ahtyba Rubin recovered. Peterson was held to 45 yards on 23 carries, the sixth-lowest yards-per-carry average of his career. The Vikings led 9-0 for most of the game.
McCallum hasn’t missed a playoff field goal attempt since 2004.
Gostkowski was sympathetic but said misses happen. What happened on each of those plays impacted Seattle’s defensive strategy on Minnesota’s last drive and also may have affected Walsh’s timing on his decisive miss. He was near tears when he talked about how it unexpectedly came to an end.
