Someone in Houston is a Millionaire After Last Night’s Powerball
Excited lottery players checking their Powerball tickets Thursday morning won’t find out they are billionaires, but three will find out they are millionaires.
A 7-Eleven store in Chula Vista sold one of 12 tickets in California that matched five of the six numbers in Wednesday night’s multi-state Powerball drawing.
The Beacon & Bridge Market, located at 820 N. Saginaw St.in Holly, was the only retailer in Oakland County to sell a winning $1 million ticket.
In fact, in Virginia during the 20 drawings of the jackpot run from November to Wednesday, sales of Powerball tickets generated approximately $34.7 million in profit. Those winning tickets were sold in California, Florida and Tennessee.
The West Virginia Lottery reported over 128,000 Powerball tickets won a prize in West Virginia following the drawing.
A $100,000 winning Powerball ticket was sold at the Speedway store at 2395 Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington, according to the NC State Education Lottery.
Lottery executives say ticket sales reached record levels, generating more than US$1 million an hour in Texas alone in the final buildup to the draw. It ended up winning them $1 million, Maryland’s lottery said.
The Florida victor, whose identity is not yet known, will take home a $528.6 million share of the record-breaking $1.5 billion jackpot.
There were also 8 $2 million winners in the state. Three of those tickets each won a $50,000 prize, while three others each won a prize of $100,000 due to the Power Play option.
Bryon Stewart, 23, claimed the prize on Thursday afternoon.
“I checked the ticket and saw that we won”, she said. The odds of winning are one in 292.2 million. “And by the time he got to the last two numbers, I just started screaming and jumping up and down”. The jack pot was $1.5 billion.
Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
