Tony Blair warns UK’s Labour: Left turn will lose voters
She talked about Brixton Energy in Lambeth, which she described as a great example of how people can share energy.
A caller asked whether the candidates would appoint Ed Miliband to their shadow cabinets.
Often viewed as a dissident from the mainstream Labour party, Corbyn is a prominent social activist and anti-austerity campaigner.
Polling by YouGov this week suggested Ms Kendall was on course to be knocked out in the first round of voting, but she said she had not considered quitting “for a second”.
She told the BBC: “I’ll be fighting for what I believe in until the very end”.
Earlier, Mr Corbyn posed for a photograph as he had coffee with Sinn Fein leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness at parliament. The graphic below shows us the ideology of those who who voted for the SNP in the 2015 election, separating those who voted Yes and No at the independence referendum.
Jeremy Corbyn referred to the House of Lords as a “dining lobbying club”. “It’s important that every constituency knows they have an MP”.
The relationship with the media was another topic debated by candidates.
Front-runner Mr Burnham was seen by only 27 per cent of voters in a new opinion poll as having “what it takes to be a good prime minister” while the same number did not think he had the right qualities.
He urged the Labour Party to “stop the abuse” and “get back to policy“.
Mr Corbyn’s links to the Irish republicans have been controversial in the past.
A source in Ms Cooper’s campaign was equally mad. Surely we can all be pleased about that.
Ms Kendall also emphasised the need to learn lessons from the investigation into the Hillsborough disaster and the importance of avoiding cover-ups. She argued the government agenda around academies and free schools was too centralised.
Kendall said that she was concerned the boycott was an initiative to “delegitimise Israel” and insisted the priority must be to battle rising anti-Semitism in the UK.
Ms Cooper thinks the housing crisis is going to get worse because the scale of the response is “nowhere near enough”.
Mr Burnham believes Labour should oppose extending Right to Buy to housing associations. “The public won’t trust again until we are honest about our past”. “Resigning ourselves to being a party of protest would mean we would be out of power for a generation and that’s not what people in Liverpool need”.
Corbyn on Wednesday dismissed a comment by Blair that he’s the Conservative Party’s preferred candidate, saying it was a “silly” remark.
But the MP Rob Marris has not yet chosen who to back, although he was one of the 48 who defied the party whip this week to vote against welfare cuts. He advised in Australia, and we lost…
Lord Mandelson, another senior party figure from the Blair years, said that the current leadership turmoil reminded him of the 1980s and that the entire future of the party was at stake.
“Tony’s big problem is that we are still waiting for the Chilcot report to come out”.
Jeremy Corbyn himself has declared that to say he is going to win the Labour party leadership is a little premature to say the least. “At the moment that person is Liz Kendall”.
She has also pledged to revolutionise the way the party supports families by offering free childcare for all.
So, essentially, Blair was saying that he would stick to his own principles and ideas, even if they would lose an election, ironically, the exact same thing that many Blairites are moaning at Corbyn supporters for.
