Palestinian shot attempting to stab soldiers in West Bank
Deaths in West Bank city bring total number of Palestinians killed in wave of violence since October 1 to 152.
Israeli troops carried out predawn detention raids in the West Bank on Sunday, arresting six young Palestinian men, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said in a statement. Ahmad, 19, ‘Alaa, 19, and Muhannad Kawazba, 18, had been shot dead after they purportedly attempted to stab Israeli soldiers at Gush Etzion junction.
The Israel Defence Forces said the soldiers had “thwarted the attack and shot the assailants”.
The American Historical Association rejected a resolution condemning what it calls Israel’s restriction of Palestinians right to education in the West Bank and Gaza.
The Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to Friday’s killings as a “dangerous escalation” and part of a “continuous series of crimes and field executions by Netanyahu’s government against Palestinians”. Palestinian officials were so moved that a woman had taken to terrorism, helping slaughter 38 civilians (including 13 children) on a bus seized on an Israeli coastal road in 1978 in an attack that killed all nine attackers, that they named a square in Ramallah for her. They use her name for girls summer camps.
In mid-September, Palestinian protests against Israel’s ongoing occupation were sparked by increased right-wing Jewish settler incursions into the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site for Muslims. Israel also was accused of bombarding 14 institutions of higher learning during the 2014 Gaza war and of “routinely” invading university campuses in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Israeli forces detained 36 Palestinians in the last three days.
Meanwhile, Israeli soldier detained Munif Kamal Amr near Hebron.
