NFL Notes: Burfict suspended for first 3 games next season

Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday morning that the expectation is that Roethlisberger will only work on Wednesday in preparations for the Steelers’ running game.

“It didn’t hurt when I reached back to throw”, Roethlisberger said.

It seems Pacman is sticking to his guns.

The question for the Steelers will be if a banged up Roethlisberger shot up with pain killers is a better option than Landry Jones, who threw three touchdowns and four interceptions this season, including one that almost ended their season last week.

“Unfortunately, I think sometimes we earn some reputations and we’ve got to eliminate that by continuing to play well within the rules the way he plays”, Lewis said of the attention Burfict receives from officials.

Jones also said he did not believe Burfict’s hit, which caused Brown’s injury, was dirty.

But that doesn’t mean Roethlisberger will necessarily do much throwing in coming days as the Steelers prepare for Sunday’s divisional round playoff game against the Denver Broncos.

Brown was injured following a controversial hit by Cincinnati Bengals’ Vontaze Burfict.

Burfict was also fined $50,000 for hitting Baltimore Ravens tight end Maxx Williams when he wasn’t involved in the play.

Citing a source close to the Bengals linebacker, ESPN is reporting that Burfict hopes Goodell will reduce his three-game suspension and wants to meet with the National Football League commissioner at his soonest convenience. Previously, he was 26-22 over three regular seasons with the Colts.

Roethlisberger said he was not sure the extent of the injury.

Steelers linebacker James Harrison, who spent one season in Cincinnati with his locker next to Burfict’s, said in Pittsburgh that Burfict is always pushing the line of what’s accepted.
