Harry Potter cast pay tribute to ‘beloved Professor Snape’.
The actor explained how he first met Rickman as an 11-year-old, and carried the friendship with him through the Potter films and beyond.
The films seldom came alive as much as they did when Snape was onscreen. But alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way, so he won’t be joining us for the rest of his life. He played villains in “Die Hard” and in a “Robin Hood” remake.
Take a deeper look at his incredible roles above. His first appearance in The Sorceror’s Stone as the stern and slightly-condescending professor made him a hard character to love but as the series wore on, his background revealed him to be a tragic antihero. What distinguishes Rickman’s performance is simple: Rickman is an excellent actor. Snape seemed to straightforward, too one-dimensional.
The clip, a major celebration of British culture, sends up both Love Actually and Harry Potter, two of Rickman’s most iconic films, as Homer and co begin watching a film called Love Indubitably in a bid to understand their other halves.
Long before the days of Severus Snape, Rickman played the part of the villain we most love to hate. I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor.
Rickman’s farewell letter to Harry Potter fans, published in Empire in 2011. Clearly fame isn’t everything, is it, Mr. Potter? From his gunfire-peppered entrance to his plummeting departure, Alan Rickman had arrived and Hollywood was never really the same again.
Sir Michael Gambon, who appeared with Alan Rickman in Harry Potter as well as on stage, told BBC Radio 4 he was “a great friend”.
Harry Potter fans will miss Alan Rickman very much.
“But the reality of course, was that he was the kindest and best of men”.
SHAPIRO: And do you have a sense of how he changed as an actor over the decades that you worked with him? This is a trained and experienced and versatile actor who could do just about anything.
SHAPIRO: I think if there is one thing that his fans will remember is his voice. He had a great voice, he spoke wonderfully well. This role, alongside Bruce Willis, while not turning any awards for Rickman, launched his career as a film actor. They can be forgiven for looking, as we say in this country, “a bit shook”. “I learned a lot from him”. In a odd way I’m glad of that frightening episode, as it made me realize that even he was a mortal of flesh and blood and a certain age and he might not always be there.
In a Facebook post, the Lord of the Rings star wrote that Rickman “put liberal philanthropy at the heart of his life”, and said he had always considered Rickman and wife Rima Horton to be at the top of his list of ideal dinner party guests. What a pleasure to speak with you.
